Our Nature Philosophy
Children need the opportunity to grow up experiencing the joys of outside play. We strive to provide our preschoolers the space and materials for outside exploration, discovery and imagination.
Our Outdoor Bill of Rights
Every Epiphany Preschooler should have the opportunity to:
- Discover, explore and connect with natural spaces and wild places close to home, in neighborhoods and at school
- Play in a safe place outdoors,
- Camp under the stars, learn to swim, ride a bike,
- Use their senses to experience the natural world,
- Visit a farm, see how food is grown, grow something,
- Explore a stream, splash in a wave, catch a fish, stomp in a puddle, play in the mud,
- Hike in a natural area and follow a trail,
- Roll in the grass, play in the sand, climb a tree or search under a log, and
- Share nature with a parent, guardian, mentor, teacher or environmental educator.
Epiphany Preschool is an outreach of Epiphany United Methodist Church. At Epiphany children become aware that God is in their lives by experiencing nature and the beauty of the world on a daily basis. A formal chapel lesson is held monthly with Pastor Brett.
Our preschool curriculum is enriched with an emphasis on nature. Our nature program includes a pumpkin patch, a sensory garden, an outdoor classroom and raised garden beds with vegetables and sunflowers. Each spring we hold our Farm Market Thursdays where children sell for a penny what they’ve grown!
Children are outside every day for 45 minutes on the playground. We have wonderful outdoor space that offers children both a blacktop area for riding bikes and a fenced area with various playground equipment.
Our teaching staff is carefully selected for their warmth, love and understanding of children. They meet the educational and work experience requirements and personal attributes as set forth by the Director and Preschool Advisory Board. The Director is responsible for hiring all staff. All teachers complete a required number of continuing education hours and are all CPR and First Aid certified. At least 2 teachers are present during school hours.
Each class is staffed with two teachers. Staff-to-child ratio is 2:9 for the young 3’s, 1:7 for the 3′s, and 1:9 for 4′s.
We have an extensive library of children’s books for use in the classrooms, as well as a parent resource library. In addition to our daily curriculum, children enjoy a weekly music class with Miss May.
Our students take field trips throughout the year. Parents are needed to volunteer to drive and chaperone as they are able.
We schedule a variety of enrichment programs, which have previously included storytellers, mobile aquarium, interactive plays, one-man band and a reptile expert.
September Our Ice Cream Social is a great way for families to get to know one another early in the school year.
December We have a Christmas Program every year for Epiphany families to come and hear their children sing beautiful Christmas music. If we’re lucky, we even get a surprise visit from Santa!
February Bring your picnic blanket to our Family Fun Night and eat pizza while we enjoy a magic show by Louis, ChildTime Magic’s magician.
April To celebrate the relationship between our preschool and our church, we have our annual “Spring Sing”. Children sing for the congregation and a reception is held after the church service in appreciation of our music!
May Our Spring Festival is a day for families past, present and future to celebrate Epiphany Preschool! Artwork saved throughout the year is displayed, there are games and prizes, popcorn and baked goods, face painting and tattoos! It’s a celebration not to be missed.
